Doge's Palace: frequently asked questions

Is this the official Doge's Palace website?

No. Doge's Palace Visit is an independent visitor guide. The official site is run by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE). We do not run the Palace. The tickets and tours featured here are sold by our partner Tiqets.

How much is a ticket to the Doge's Palace?

On the official site, 35 € for the full ticket, or 30 € if bought online at least 30 days before the visit, and 15 € reduced. The Tiqets Fast Track Entry is priced at 35 €.

What does the ticket include?

The St. Mark's Square Museums ticket covers the Doge's Palace, the Correr Museum, the National Archaeological Museum and the monumental rooms of the Marciana Library, with the MUVE app audio guide.

Do I need to book a time slot?

The Palace also sells tickets at its ticket office. A ticket with a time slot sets your entry time, and the official site says tickets without a slot are admitted from 12:00. We found no official queue times.

What can I bring inside?

Suitcases, trolleys and large bags (the three dimensions add up to more than one metre) are not allowed. Backpacks, medium bags and umbrellas go to the free cloakroom. Alcohol, food and drink in the rooms, smoking, flash, tripods and selfie sticks are forbidden.

Can I take photos?

Low-resolution photos for non-commercial use are allowed, without flash, tripod or selfie stick, according to the visitor regulations.

Is the Palace accessible?

The regular route is fully accessible, with a lift and accessible toilets on the ground floor. The Secret Itineraries, the Prisons and the Armoury are not accessible.

How long does the visit take?

The official site gives no duration for the regular visit. The Secret Itineraries guided tour takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.

What are the Secret Itineraries?

A guided tour of the Pozzi, the Piombi cells with the two reconstructed cells of Casanova, the Chancellery rooms, the torture chamber and the Sala degli Inquisitori. It costs 40 € (20 € reduced), is limited to 25 people and is not for children under 6, nor for people with claustrophobia, vertigo or heart and breathing problems.

Is the Palace open on 25 December and 1 January?

The official site does not say. Some unofficial sources report that it is closed on both days, so check the Announcements section before you go.

What happens during acqua alta?

We found no statement for the Doge's Palace on the official site. St Mark's Basilica has alternative routes when water enters the narthex. Check the official sites if the tide is high.

Can I visit St Mark's Basilica with the same ticket?

No. The Basilica has a different manager, ticket office, opening hours and rules. See our St Mark's page.
